OUR 1ST DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT!!!

October 27, 2010

Today was our first appointment with Dr. Cole. We had our sonogram first and it was the neatest thing! They calculated us at 9 weeks 1 day! It was so neat seeing our baby- It was a lil' butterball with arm buds and leg buds already forming! It's amazing at how much we could see. The heartbeat was 174 and that was like music to my ears- I started crying, of course!
We saw Dr. Cole after the sonogram and she said everything looks great! We are so lucky to have her for our doctor- she is so wonderful - we're definitely in good hands!!
After we left the doctor's office we stopped by my dad's work to show him his new grandbaby!! He just grinned and all the ladies were calling him "grandpaw"- I think he kinda liked that : )

And of course we had to go by mom's office to show her the pics! She was sooo excited and asked 100 questions - but that's ok we stilll love her : )

That evening we rode to Pelahatchie to see Ms. Sheila and Ralph (and of course eat supper-- spaghetti!!) We had our sonogram recorded on a DVD and we watched it on their big screen TV- It was so neat!!!! I could just watch that video over and over!!

Well it has been a busy few days! Kyle and I took some vacation time off from work Thursday and Friday and it was anything but a vacation! Don’t get me wrong though- it was great to spend time together, just the two of us.  We went to the fair Thursday and ate all that fried, bad for you food-the baby made me do it  ; ).  Friday morning we got up early and set out in search of a daycare—wow- that was interesting! I had no idea just how expensive it is.. the cheapest we found was $120 a week and the most expensive was $146 a week.  We have narrowed it down to two (Miss Mandy’s and Sunshine).. we’re just going to wait and see who calls first and go from there. They said there probably won’t be an opening until first of August… Which isn’t too bad since we will need it mid July- I’m sure we can work something out for 2 extra weeks…
We picked Ashlyn up from her school in Decatur and it was so hard not to tell her! I know she’s going to be so excited and is going to be the best big sister!! We are waiting to tell her after we go to our first doctor appointment and get a sonogram and know that everything is ok....

Saturday was a big day for us – we took Ashlyn to the fair for her first time (Kris and Kade went also) and she had a BLAST!!  Kyle rode the Tilt-A-Whirl (or the “shells” as Ashlyn called it) with her and he said it was the greatest thing in the world to be riding it with her while she screamed and couldn’t quit smiling!!  It’s the little things in life…
Of course you can’t go to the fair without getting an extra long corndog and that’s just what Ashlyn got- she ate the whole thing and LOVED it!!  After three and half hours we were exhausted so we came home and crashed!

Mom was at the Coast with for Jessica’s wedding and I talked to Aunt Jodi on speaker phone- before I could even get the big news out she kept saying “oh my gosh you’re pregnant.. oh my gosh”.. needless to say, Aunt Jodi was thrilled!! I then told Uncle Brad and he was excited too (as excited as a man can get haha) I can’t wait for my lil “caterpillar” to meet Aunt Jodi and Uncle Brad! Christmas time will definitely be entertaining!!

I’m still feeling okay but have developed some major cravings- hopefully these won’t last the whole time or else I’m going to be in trouble. I have craved McDonald’s cheeseburger and fries- A LOT!  I did have a craving for some cheese dip and Tostitos so Kyle, being the best hubby ever, got up and went to the store to get me cheese dip- thanks honey.. I LOVE YOU!!

So the newness is still here!! I still can’t believe I’m PREGNANT!!! After making an early morning restroom trip (b/c this thing the size of a grain of rice is right on my bladder I’m pretty sure) I got back in the bed to sleep some more –thank goodness I still had a little while longer before church time! If you notice the date then you all know where Kyle was headed after church (yep- deer camp!)  So off he went to Durant (and I must admit I was little emotional (gee I have no idea why) and was sad that he was leaving b/c I was still wanting to celebrate! But we could really use some more deer meat in the freezer so that’s the ONLY reason I let him go ; )
So while Kyle was gone to deer camp mom and I went to tell Nana and Papa the news.. Mom had some things from New Orleans for Nana to look at, so we snuck the pregnancy test in the frame picture in with the other stuff Nana was looking at!  Well it took Nana several times to figure out what it was ( I think she thought it was mom’s test hahahh –yikes!) Anyway, Nana finally heard mom say it was mine not hers. Then came the tears, and the mouth wide open and “oh my garsh”- I had the camera snapping the whole time and the pictures are absolutely pricesless!!!!! We were laughing so hard we had tears rolling! Thanks, Nana!!! : )
Then there was Papa and, bless his heart, he had no clue what was going on. After Nana telling him what it was he literally put his hand up and swatted it and said “oh no” hahahah I don’t think my Papa was ready for this news!!
Afterwards I had to make a grocery trip to get some healthy, nutritious food for this little butterbean! I loaded up on strawberries, bananas, cantaloupe, yogurt, broccoli, carrots, oatmeal, wheat bread and soup… well that’s a start anyway, until I get an appointment with the doctor to get a “list” of what’s good and not so good!
Finally home for a quiet, lazy evening with my girls! Looks like it’s going to be a soup and grilled cheese sandwich night!!
Oh and about 9:00 tonight my best friend Kimberly called to tell me she was bringing me the book  “What to Expect When Expecting” and when she got here she had a baby journal to ready daily and write in and the cutest pumpkin bucket filled with cute little forks spoons and bowls! She is the sweetest and has the biggest heart of anyone I know! I’m so lucky to have such a great friend! My excitement just keeps growing!!!  “thank you Aunt Kimberly” (from baby Upchurch)
Things Aunt Kimberly has already gotten.... no, this baby isn't going to be spoiled!!

WE'RE PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!

ok, I'm new to the whole blogging world but I think I've figured it all out... This is something I wanted to start to keep our family and friends updated!! so here goes....
October 2, 2010
Wow!! I don’t even know where to begin!! Today is one of the happiest days of my life- just found out.....I’M PREGNANT!!!!!!!!  Kyle was still at work (b/c he was letting me sleep late- aww what a sweet husband) and I couldn’t wait any longer. I had to find out what the reason was for being 10 days late (and well the majorly, painful boobs!) So about 8:15 I took the test and waited for the LONGEST 3 minutes of my life and finally got the courage to look.. and… it said….. “PREGNANT”- omgosh pregnant?!?!?! So my nerves got the best of me and I started gagging… while calling the new daddy-to-be to tell him to hurry home!
When Kyle finally got home I had the pregnancy test sitting on the counter with a sweet little sticky note under that said “I LOVE YOU DADDY”.  He saw it and said “Really?!?!” “for real?!”  he was so excited!!!
Of course we were ready to shout it to the world but we knew we had to tell the parents first!! Since my mom was in New Orleans, and wouldn't be back till later that evening, we had to wait to tell her and my dad. Kyle wanted to call his mom and I said no, we can’t call- this has to be done in person! So he calls Ms. Sheila and tells her we’re going to come out to her house for lunch (and of course she loves to cook for her kids) So off to Pelahatchie we went!  We stopped to pick Kris up also  b/c well it’s mom’s for lunch( who can pass that up?!)  When we got there we went into the kitchen where Ms. Sheila was finishing up cooking and Kyle told her “that’s not going to be enough food” her reply- “why not?” Kyle- “b/c you’ve got and extra one to feed” Ms Sheila- “really?!!!!” and of course Kris- “REALLY?! (with a shocked look on his face)” and Mr. Ralph “congratulations” with a smile on his face!! Followed by a lot of hugging!!!! Of course lunch was DELICIOUS!! –baby’s first lunch- meatloaf, butterbeans, creamed corn, fried okra, cornbread and sweet tea = happy mama and baby ; )
FINALLY after waiting the whole day my mom was finally home and we could go over to her house to tell her and dad!! So beforehand, I went to Wal-Mart and got a cute “grandkids” picture frame and then went to CVS to print off the picture of the pregnancy test.. I put the picture in the frame and headed to their house… I had butterflies the whole car ride there! When we walked in, mom and dad were standing in the kitchen and I told them I had something for them… after a couple seconds of mom looking at it she realized what it was and started crying! She wanted to know “details”.. really, mom?? Details???! Haha!  Dad was pretty shocked , to say the least. He was just standing there and mom asked him what he thought and he said “I really don’t know what to think about this” (with a  huge grin on his face! Then of course more hugging and more hugging and more.. well everyone knows my mom!! ; )
Me, Kyle, Kris and Kristen had plans to go out to eat and bowl so we left mom and dad’s house to go eat at Mellow Mushroom (baby likes pizza ; )   ) then went bowling. I was scared to bowl thinking that it may be harmful but after some research on the internet, I learned that there are women 6-9 months pregnant that are on bowling leagues.. So I picked the lightest ball (6 lbs) and only bowled one round (baby’s first bowling trip!!)
What a big day for us!! About 11:00 Kyle and I decided it was time to go home (neither one of us could hold our eyes open any longer.) So home we went to crashed!!!
A GREAT day for the Upchurch family!!!!
